The Bangla calendar
The Bangla calendar (বঙ্গাব্দ) has twelve months, from Boishakh to Choitro, and six seasons of two months each. The year begins on Pohela Boishakh, 14 April, and the Bangla year is 593 years behind the English year from then until the next 13 April — so 14 April 2026 is 1 Boishakh 1433.
Which calendar this tool follows
- From 1426 (April 2019): Bangladesh’s revised calendar. Boishakh to Ashwin have 31 days, Kartik to Magh and Choitro have 30, and Falgun has 29 days, or 30 in a leap year. This keeps national days fixed: 21 February is always 8 Falgun, 26 March 12 Choitro and 16 December 1 Poush.
- From 1394 to 1425 (1987–2019): the earlier revision, with 31 days in Boishakh to Bhadro, 30 in the other months, and 31 days in Falgun in leap years. Older dates are worked out with the same rules, so they can be a day apart from calendars printed at the time.
- West Bengal and other places that follow the traditional astronomical calendar may show a date a day or two apart.
