Passport photos at the right size
Passport and visa offices are strict about photo size, so a photo that is a few millimetres off can be rejected. This tool crops your picture to the exact shape, saves it at 300 dots per inch — the resolution photo labs print at — and lays out as many copies as fit on a sheet of photo paper.
Common sizes
- 35 × 45 mm: UK passports, Schengen and many European visas, and Indian passports.
- 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm): US passports and visas, and Indian visa and OCI applications.
- 50 × 70 mm: Canadian passports.
- 33 × 48 mm: Chinese visas.
- Rules change, and each country also sets the head size, background colour and expression. Always check the current requirements of the office you are applying to.
How to make a passport photo
- Take the photo: face the camera straight on, against a plain white or light background, with even light and no shadows.
- Drop it here and pick the size. Move and zoom the crop box so your head fills the dashed oval.
- Download the print sheet and print it on photo paper at 100% (actual size), or take it to a photo shop. Or download a single photo for an online application.
Good to know
- Print at “actual size” or 100%; “fit to page” shrinks the photos.
- A 4 × 6 inch print costs very little at a photo shop and holds several 35 × 45 mm photos.
- Your photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
