The same pay, five ways

Job offers quote a monthly figure, contracts quote a yearly one and freelance work quotes an hourly rate. Comparing them means putting all three on the same footing, which is all this calculator does — plus the deduction line, because gross pay is not what reaches your account.

Formula

Worked example

60,000 a month is 720,000 a year, 13,846 a week, 2,308 a day on a six-day week and 288 an hour at 48 hours a week. With 10% going to tax and provident fund, take-home is 54,000 a month.

How to use the salary calculator

  1. Enter the figure you know and pick what period it covers.
  2. Set your hours and days — these decide the daily and hourly equivalents.
  3. Add a deduction percentage for tax, provident fund or insurance to see the net figure.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert monthly salary to yearly?

Multiply by 12. A monthly salary of 60,000 is 720,000 a year, before bonuses and allowances.

How do I work out my hourly rate?

Divide the yearly figure by 52 to get a week, then by the hours you work in a week. 720,000 a year at 48 hours a week is about 288 an hour.

Is take-home pay the same as net salary?

Yes — it is what is left after tax, provident fund and other deductions. Enter the total deduction percentage above to see it.
