How GPA is calculated

Each grade has a grade point, such as 4.00 for A+ on the UGC scale. Multiply each course’s grade point by its credit hours, add the results, and divide by the total credits. A 3-credit course therefore counts twice as much as a 1.5-credit lab. CGPA (cumulative GPA) does the same across every term you have finished.

Grading scales included

SSC and HSC: the 4th subject

In Bangladesh’s SSC and HSC results, the optional (4th) subject only helps: grade points above 2 are added to the total of the compulsory subjects before dividing by the number of compulsory subjects, and the GPA is capped at 5.00. An F in a compulsory subject means the exam is not passed. Tick “4th subject” on that row.

How to use the GPA calculator

  1. Choose your grading scale.
  2. Enter each course with its credits and grade. Add or remove rows as needed.
  3. Add your CGPA so far and the credits it covers to see your new CGPA. Your entries are kept in this browser for next time.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate CGPA from semester GPAs?

Multiply each semester’s GPA by its credits, add those totals, and divide by all the credits together. Averaging the GPAs without credits is only correct if every semester had the same credits.

What GPA do I need for a first class?

It depends on the university. In Bangladesh, a CGPA of 3.00 and above is commonly treated as first class, and many scholarships ask for 3.50 or more. Check your university’s rules.

How is HSC GPA 5.00 calculated with a 4th subject?

Add the grade points of the compulsory subjects, add the 4th subject’s points above 2 (an A+ adds 3), and divide by the number of compulsory subjects. Anything above 5.00 is shown as 5.00.
